FAQ's

What is Ayurveda and why are your meals based off these principles?

Ayurveda is a 5000 year old health system, it is a living science, one that has evolved to match the needs of the individuals it serves. The idea that we are not what we eat but what we digest is extremely important notion to consider in life but specifically speaking it resonates on all levels when talking about the postpartum woman's recovery after birth.

A woman requires specific foods to aid digestion after giving birth to help her heal and have energy for her recovery and breastfeeding journey. Our meals meet those requirements by:
- using ingredients that reduce inflammation
- promote digestion
- help eliminate gas/bloating
- encourage milk supply
- taste delicious and restore balance - bringing heat back into the body and hydration while eliminating excess air.

Our meals are mainly vegetarian which works inline with the Ayurvedic principle of eating foods that are easily digestable. We do start to add some animal protein in the 4th Week, if tolerated.

What type of dairy is in your meals?

The only animal dairy we use in our meals is Ghee. Ghee is made by melting regular butter. The butter separates into liquid fats and milk solids. Once separated, the milk solids are removed, and you are left with the pure fat. Ghee has significantly less lactose levels than butter. It also has a higher smoke point, which means it can be heated to up to 250 degrees before it oxidises. It is generally well tolerated with those who suffer from lactose intolerances.

At Meals 4 Mummas we have a big focus on grass-fed, pasture-raised ethical products. Our ghee is sourced from Australian farmers using ethical farming practices. If you are completely dairy free or vegan, we use organic coconut and olive oils.

We would love to talk to you more about our menus and help to curate the best options for you. Please call us or send us an email at hello@meals4mummas.com.au and one of our friendly team will be in touch.

I have specific dietary requirements, can you cater for them?

At Meals 4 Mummas we understand that every Mumma is unique. If you have specific dietary requirements, please let us know. We are well accustomed with most types of requirements and will always do our best to cater to your needs. Our meals are mostly all gluten-free and dairy-free with the exception of ghee. Please advise us for any severe allergies so we can make sure your meals are prepared in a seperate kitchen to avoid contamination.

When do I need to order my meals by? Is there a cut-off?

We cut off orders for the following weeks delivery at 9pm on Saturday evening. This is so we can prepare our team to order fresh produce and goods from our local farmers, artisans and butchers.

If you're purchasing your meals in advance, you can add your desired delivery date to the notes and our customer service team will put your order on that week's schedule.

I'm pregnant. When should I place my order?

Anytime really!

We do recommend planning your meals in advance (before 36/37 weeks) so that you can relax into your final stages of pregnancy knowing your post partum food is sorted.

When you place your order or speak with one of our team, we will record your due date on your file so we have a rough idea of delivery dates.

You can also select a delivery week when making your selections from our shop if you know your booked in for an induction or caesarian.

Alternatively, we will wait to hear from you when your in labour or when bubs is born to get your meals on for delivery that week.

We always do our best to get your meals delivered to you as close as we can to bubs birth.

What payment options are available?

We have multiple payment options available. You can checkout on our website using credit card, apple pay, AMEX, google pay, PAYPAL and gift cards.

We also accept AFTERPAY, ZIP PAY and HUMM

I'm not postpartum, is this food still okay for me to eat?

Absolutely,

Our meals are based on wholefood principles and are great to eat at any stage, even if you're not a mumma.

We now have a BEYOND postpartum menu where you can find delicious meals you can eat at any stage.

Take a look at our Menu Options at the bottom of our Menu's page to choose your Menu.

I want to get a new mumma a gift voucher. How do I go about getting that?

We really know how busy life can be for everybody. Sometimes providing the special Mumma to be in your life with the support that you want to can be a really hard task, made so much more difficult when you are looking after a family of your own. Our gift vouchers are a great option to present at a baby shower or mother blessing.

Head over to our shop and select gift voucher, you can select what denomination you wish you spend and head over to the check out.

We can also post you a physical voucher to present to the new mumma in your life (just add a note at checkout).

Another great option is to purchase a meal package and have all the meals delivered to her, its a great surprise and one she doesn't have to organise herself.

How does the menu work? Can I choose my own meals or do I have to follow the set menu?

Meals 4 Mummas provide a set menu based on the stage of postpartum our mumma’s are at. This allows us to provide you with the specific nutritional support your body needs at any time throughout your postpartum.

Our meals within the first 3 weeks tend to be only vegetarian (with the exception of bone broth), once again with the main focus being on easy digestion for our mumma’s.

We respect that not everyone will want to follow an Ayurvedic menu. In this case, you can choose to customise your menu and select meals that suit you. After all, you know your body best.

Do I need to be home to collect my order?

Yes, our items do not come with ice bricks and are not frozen as they are transported via refrigerated trucks, so please make sure someone is home to collect your order.

You will receive a text the day before your delivery with an estimated time of arrival and delivery window.

I want to now what ingredients are in my meal, how can I find this information?

Most of our meals come with all ingredients listed on their packaging. If they don't they likely have a QR code that will take you to our allergens and ingredients page on our website where you can access this information.
